Hi all, looking to buy a home in Brentwood, CA. At the same time I am reading about a 10-15% crash. Anyone living in Brentwood willing to chat ? I want to understand commute, companies nearby etc

10-15% doesn’t seem unlikely for the entire west coast. California to Washington. Brentwood is currently at -12.8% YOY. Seattle is -6.6%. Offer 2-3% lower than asking to insulate yourself a bit. I don’t care what the real estate agents say. I’ll make my low offers and save 30-50k. We’ll write 20 offers if that’s what it takes. One got accepted this week. I was shocked. Now I gotta buy it. 😂

Thanks EA1.

Are you moving from outside of So Cal? Brentwood is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in LA. Super close to Santa Monica and a reasonable commute to downtown and South Bay. Getting to the valley is a bit longer and going to OC would be over an hour in traffic.

Sorry should have clarified. It's Brentwood in east bay near San Francisco

I used to live in the area and still live close by now. It's a pretty nice area, your commute will not be that great ( assuming you might have to travel to Oakland/ SF) . There's not much to do out in that area as it's mainly suburbs but if you don't have to deal with commuting too much or the summer heat then you can probably snag a larger house on the cheaper side.

This might be the wrong place to ask but is getting a car worth it?

I think it’ll somewhat improve QOL but with parking, insurance, gas and financing costs I’m not sure spending almost 1K/month is a good idea at 22.

The other problem is that used cars are so damn expensive right now so I can’t just buy a used mx5 for 5-10K

Which CC is better for sign-up bonus - Citi Premier 80K points or Chase Aer Lingus/Iberia 100K Avios points?

I churn somewhat regularly and am under 5/24 by 1. I think Citi's points are more valuable but maybe I should knock out another Chase card before I'm at 5/24 again, even though Avios isn't as versatile?

Is that a good idea or am I in over my head? I mostly want to, because I’m tired of renting and I’ve read reports that prices will only continue to go up. Although, I will have to pay back the 401k + pay rent, so maybe not a good idea. Advice/resources would be helpful.
