TBH, Work Life Balance in most product companies suck. I have friends ranging from Zomato to Swiggy, UC to Myntra, Dream11 to Cred, Walmart to Amazon. So, I really know how things are on ground. Paytm doesn’t have a bad work culture, it’s mostly unorganised and fast paced as most environments in product space are. And then, I have friends in ZS too who start their work at 10:30 am in the morning and close by 9 pm mostly in meetings. In my 8 years of career, I have never seen someone working in Product companies praising about the work culture.
I’m not praising the fact that the WLB is bad and you should cling to it, but I’m just saying that most companies have the same culture, mostly driven top down. So, you cannot run away from it. If you’re paid well, then that is ok to some extent and after spending some time in the organisation, you can mould and relax the process as well. So, I hope this answers your first 2 questions.
Yearly appraisals this year have been around 10-15% ranging with experience and market growth. But, most deserving people have got promotions this year. So, yes if you work hard you can expect a good trajectory in 2 years.
Working on weekends is not a norm, but is generalised when something urgent needs to go live or only when there’s a production issue which most companies follow. Also, there is some bootlicking in teams but that builds visibility even if you don’t like it. This is a hard fact. So, no exception here. I hope I was able to clear your doubts.
This is sponsored post by a boot licking folk itself, any one can get it by reading the comment. He must have got good rating this year not by talent but by boot licking. Highly misleading post suggesting all product organisation have same culture as Paytm.
Work life balance is worst in Paytm overall but it varies team to team too. Some managers can be really toxic here. I have had an experience of 1 such manager.
Yearly hikes on an average are 10% but again, it varies.
There were 2 weekends when I worked during weekends due to issue in prod.
I will suggest you to choose another offer if you have. If not, it’s you who has to decide.

Hahah! Looks like a super frustrated guy just woke up and got triggered after seeing the good things in life which are not a part of his life I suppose. Seeing your tone, makes me remind me of ownself some 4 years ago. I used to be exactly like you. But, after working in most of the Unicorns and having first hand experience of working style of companies, I can surely say what I have just told above. You look like a 2-3 year experience boy who has not seen the world outside and just cribbing in the cradle for your 10-12% appraisal. Suggest me good product companies that are unicorns and have the best WLB according to you. I challenge you. Because that’s how you like the game to be played.
P.S: By god’s grace I have never been in a situation to lick boots of the management. I have proved my technical skills at all level unlike you cribbing and making comments without even knowing someone. Get a life and leave paytm if you feel toxic here. Go get some fresh air and a whip of life.
