Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well.
I’m a 41-year-old Hispanic female with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (and bilingual) and most of my experience in offsite hospital settings, primarily in program assistant and coordinator roles. More recently, I ventured into running a franchise in estate sales. While it didn’t work out long-term, it gave me invaluable experience in business operations — from hiring and training staff to managing logistics and delivering client-facing events.

Continued..

Across my career, I’ve built strong time management skills, adaptability with new software and systems, and extensive experience in client and customer engagement.
Currently, I’m working in retail as a sales lead to make ends meet. Although it’s not my long-term goal, it has kept me grounded while I pursue a course in project management to expand my skill set.
In my hospital roles, I consistently earned around $60k. Moving forward, I need to position myself on a path toward $100k+ within the next couple of years to sustain my family. The challenge has been finding opportunities that allow me to leverage my transferable skills without having to step backwards in pay.
I live in New York with my teenage daughter, and I’m motivated to secure a career track that offers both stability and growth. While I’ve faced setbacks (including recruiters ghosting after interviews), I’m determined to keep moving forward.
What advice would you give someone in my position about transitioning into a higher-paying, growth-oriented role?

Hi All,

Anyone who has started up a side hustle whilst working in consulting - is it generally a good idea to let your employer know or will they make your life difficult/try to push you out if they know?

(Context - I need the extra income to have a shot at affording grad school, I work for a small boutique, job contract was ambiguous on the issue. Side hustle is selling stuff I make as a hobby on Amazon)

Thanks!

Working on introducing ERGs at a company- how did your company decide the first ERGs to start with? How did they communicate the start of ERGs and roll out the structure?

We all have beautiful names and we should all be addressed by those names and the pronouns that we identify with. I particularly like Erik and you can refer to me as He/Him or They/Them.

At MNP, we foster an inclusive and safe environment for all to openly share their pronouns. We respect the pronouns that you choose to identify with.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.
