Hi everyone,

I’m in my last year of law school (T14) and I’ve got an offer a top big law firm (V5). So far I’ve focused on pursuing PE M&A and fund formation work, rounded out with some syndicated credit.

I have an interest in eventually ending up in a buy-side role, and I’ve been taking classes at the business school accordingly: accounting, FSA, valuation principles, etc. with plans to take a modeling course next semester.

I don’t plan to make the move for a few years (~4) [Cont. Below]

Sounds like you’re making all the right moves. Future things to focus on:
- Developing a research process: idea generation to modeling to valuation, etc. You want to get your reps in with real companies.
- Determining your investment style: this’ll come from the books you read & your personal views (you can Google more on this). It’s important you take a focused approach when going for the buy-side. Merger arb is a popular route for lawyers.

Appreciate all the feedback, thanks a ton!

No - please take it easy while you can : )

Haha noted, thanks!

Sounds like you are on the right path. I agree though, some downtime won't hurt. Its important to take care of your mental health and rest when you can.

like

Absolutely! - im generally taking this final year slow to work out more, eat better, etc. In my downtime I’m reading and networking, but nothing too stressful

[Cont.] Is there anything else I should be doing in the interim? I’ve been working my way through some key books (Intelligent Investor, Walk Down Wall Street) and trying to learn about funds and generally network.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hi Fishes,
I've been offered for Engineering expert position at Novartis India. I've received offer letter 2 weeks back and my DOJ is updated to Mid December. I told the HR that my current company's last working day is on mid January and resend the offer letter with mid Jan as my DOJ. But they told that they can send the revised offer letter 3 weeks before the joining date.
Is this normal process? Has anyone gone through similar experience?
