Hi Fam,

Looking at leaving audit, for a financial analyst and small Corp Dec roles for small corps.

A few of the roles ask for financial modelling, but I'm unsure if it is DCF (per my old finance classes) and need IB level type work or just quick and easy excel modelling for sensitivity/variances from different parameter changes.

Seems like a vague term.

Would love to get some insight on people who perform financial modelling in their work and had it in their position description.

Thanks

This is a great question. Quick and easy excel modeling for sure. I would take a few financial modeling courses online on the side so you can at least set up the “complex” models although I’m sure there is flexibility to grow into perfecting a model of that nature.

Impossible to answer because "it depends."

Financial analyst and FP&A roles can vary. Corp dev is pretty heavy in modeling and really only hires ex-bankers (or occasionally from mgmt consulting/FDD).

For the CFE, did you do anything in addition to the ACFE prep course? The course is just practice questions, so I’m wondering where I can actually learn the information first before that.

Wondering for anyone who got their CFF (Ceritified Financial Forensics) designation. Was it difficult? How long does it take to study for using the review course? Is the exam mainly multiple choice or short answer and how difficult? Any guidance or tips would help please. I already have my CFE but just want to know if CFF is worth it

Hello fishes,

I am a Project Management professional with an exp of 2+ years in project management and account growth.
I have hands on in project scoping, delivery planning and tracking, risk management, etc.

I manage pay worth .4M USD and closed 0.1M USD.

I want to switch from here as I am highly dissatisfied with the pay. Could you help me know according to industrial standard, how much my pay should be, and how can I star looking for newer opportunities in India?

Thanks!

I keep getting recruiters asking to apply for new roles, which is what I thought I wanted because I’m not growing at my agency. But I’m so fatigued I don’t even know if I want to stay in advertising. Have y’all left or took a break to do something different? What did you do?

Hey Friends! Looking for advice!

My wife is a Chartered Accountant with 7+ years of experience as credit manager, underwriting loans with some leading banks in India. She just got her EAD and is looking for jobs, open to switch profiles as well. Do you think she would fit in for any role here in Seattle, WA? She has been a star performer and promoted twice in the last 3 years. One problem is companies look for US experience which she does not have, we just moved here early this year.

Is there anything you would change about the career path you took in the industry?

Advice & resources? My spouse and I are starting to make good money (ages 28 & 31, $105k & $70k) with $10k in savings (we were hit hard financially this year) and 2 car payments.

We live in a cheap apartment ($1.3k) that is sh*tty. Don’t quite have a down payment (especially not in ATX). Is it dumb to rent a house for a year at $3k/month while we save up again?

We both didn’t come from $ and are figuring out how to not be idiots 🙃 tbh we would prefer to rent forever but that feels dumb???

Hello Fishes,

I am new to the investing world. I have invested some 80k in Nifty fifty index funds. I wanted to increase my investment in other MFs and stocks.

Can you advise how to start it considering short term and long term financial goals.

Short term goals - like for 2-3 years

Long term goals - like for 5-6+ years or more depending upon the performance

I have seen multiple you tube videos but seems to get confused on how to start and which funds to pick.

Thank you!

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
