I'm joining EY next month for tech stack ODI, PL SQL. how flexible is it to change a skill set or project after 18 months in EY? I want to eventually move to the data engineering side. ODI (Oracle data integrator) is a niche tool which will go extinct in future and I want to move other technology hopefully in EY.Deloitte Accenture Tata Consultancy

I moved projects in less than a year with a similar situation - that being said, it's easier if you have a strong business case for why you want to move (i.e. I don't feel like this project is in line with my long term career goals, and this other project is, I feel I could be a greater benefit to the firm in another role, etc.). Try to get your RP and Coach on board, that's who will end up having more say
Take three actions....
1) find a replacement that is qualified and ready to step in ; put together a transition plan
2) work with your coach to find an active opportunity in whatever you want to move to and have a conversation with the person running that op 3) take those two items to the person running your current engagement
Is trying to move to a different Big 4 with < 1 year at PwC a bad idea? Or should I instead try and switch Business Vertical?
Yeah you're fucked if you ask to move. Made that mistake my first year. They don't care and will backhandedly tell you to suck it up and deal!
I doubt you can switch vertical in the first year
@P1, thanks. I may have a discussion with my RP/Coach and see what happens
@E1 - so you think then I'll have to tough it out if I'm stuck in that project. Or could I maybe start looking at other Big4 opportunities? Don't know if that's a good idea with <1 year in my current role though
You could always start looking elsewhere. You can have the conversation with your RP though that you have been on a long term project and you want to continue elsewhere to diversify your skill set. First year is tough though as you are a new fish. Be willing to put in a couple added weeks/ months to transfer knowledge with a end date confirmed
