Hi guys. I have an opportunity to work for an agency - temporary work. It would be a 4-6 week contract with a spot they are considering me for. I currently am collecting unemployment benefits at this time and have a "kitty" that would allot me $ till the end of the summer. The job I would have to work at is a 30 minute drive and would only pay me just a little above what I am getting right now. What's my best move? I don't want to "refuse" work and risk that unemployment might take away $.

If it was me I would take it for the possibility of a permanent position and if you aren’t hired after the temp time frame you should be able to get unemployment reinstated

Take the work! It’s all about making connections!

You should go for it and see what happens. Sometimes, you need to take a few steps back before you can take a big leap forward.

I don't get the question. What exactly are you having doubts about? Especially considering that refusing it could cost you your unemployment benefits.

Taking it would preserve your benefits, give you a little more time to keep searching, and it could even lead to something permanent.
You don't really like the job? It's only a 4–6 week contract. That's practically nothing—it's not as if you'd have to grit your teeth and endure it for the next few years.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Refusing the work could lead to me putting my existing benefits in jeopardy. I think I have to go for it.
Thanks for your response.

I’m maxing out my 401K, traditional IRA and HSA this year and paying for some house improvements. I have about $750K total investments and very close to $2M net worth, but realize that I am behind on investments if I want to do FIRE. I was focused on paying off huge chunks of my mortgage and managed to whittle it down to $75K left. Would you suggest I go ahead and pay that off this year? Or pause and do a mega back door roth instead? I’m mid 40s. Thanks!

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

Thoughts?

So, the CDC removed the Covid guidelines. I’ve never had Covid. I’m afraid people will come into work not wearing a mask and be inconsiderate… ughhh so distracting and disgusting. I’m also at risk to develop complications. Not sure if I should talk to HR.
