I’m looking into going to Goldman Sachs for the summer internship, and I wanted to know the GPA “recommendations” if at all possible. I’m a first year, but due to my doing dual credit, I am currently a sophomore. Also, I have done two summer internships at an insurance firm (3 months each). Any advice is appreciated!

Hi there—happy to try and answer your questions, what’s up?
Fire away
Q1. How have consulting firms evolved during Covid times? Has the priorities and strategies' fundamentals changed or are they still the same?
Q2. How have you personally contributed to your firm's goals to achieve carbon neutral status?
Q3. How do I get into consulting since firms straightaway reject my resume and recruiters or employees never respond on LinkedIn? I can't ask for referrals unless I form a relationship with them. But this is a vicious cycle and wish to know a good way to breakthrough.
Q4. Do you have clients who are doing surprisingly very well during the pandemic times and have approached you to help them figure out expansion strategies?
Thanks in advance, guys! Appreciate your thoughts and responses.
Q1. I can’t speak for all firms, but typically everyone is still working from home and travel has been halted and almost non-existent (with a few exceptions). There’s been a lot of momentum and practice is using as much virtual tools/platforms both for employees and clients to try and make our business still as “people-oriented” and interactive as possible.
Priorities and strategies have only really changed with regard to health and safety protocols and policies, as well as increasing focus on employee health and wellbeing. It’s been very busy in terms of work and even oversold in some areas as a lot of clients are commissioning work (good problem to have but challenging when you don’t have enough staff/still going through hiring cycles).
Q2. As bad as it may sound, I’m not as in-tune with the carbon-neutrality subject matter, although since I’ve been working from home for a year now, I have significantly reduced driving if that helps. And you can bet firms are achieving this as well with the limited to no travel at all via airplanes.
Q3. There are different ways to get in. The typical way is going to a target school/program from where firms typically recruit from. Another way is to try and virtually network with people on LinkedIn (try seeing if your existing connections have links) and create rapport that way and eventually bring up the topic of your job search. And of course, there’s always cold-applying to a job posting, and in this case, it is so crucial to really make sure you have a good tailored resume and back to that networking aspect to try and get your resume noticed. In terms of consulting firms, also consider boutique ones and not just the big firms. Unfortunately, you will have to develop genuine networks, trying to get a referral right off the bat comes off as disingenuous.
Q4. Anecdotally I think clients I’ve worked with thus far are doing well, can’t say if they are planning to necessarily expand esp. when there are still things “unknown” in terms of the pandemic but there are lots of movements and shifts in terms of resources/financial and human capital during these times.
Hope this helps!
