Hi 🐠, have an interview for a new charter school (startup~), as director of operations but my background is in banking. If anyone has insight on basically how a school operates that would be great (like what is done inhouse vs outsourced, etc).

Summary of job description:
Leads all aspects of school operations, including facilities, food and transportation services, school schedules, rosters, student information database, visitors, payroll, benefits

I work at a small school network and closely with the ops teams at schools. It's a lot this year for them - setting up online rosters for testing (state tests, assessments, etc), creating guidelines for hybrid and in person schooling, planning for updated report cards, among other things. It's very administrative in that you have to write out a lot of things but very impactful work.
Feel free to dm me but happy to answer qs in this thread

It doesn't hurt to have a specific target, but it's much more important to have growth-related goals, like students to grow by x% yoy. I have no idea how a new school would define its goals though.

I would suggest getting a clear picture and understanding of what your responsibilities are going to be though. Defining those type of exam/assessment goals are not what ops teams should be doing, given your lack of background and experience in education. It should be the academic team setting those goals. I would be super concerned if ops at any school was doing that.
Instead you would probably help something like enrollment. Say your school's enrollment is projected 100 kids lower for next SY, so you help look at where the drop is and then coordinate with your family/outreach/development team to plan a marketing plan of some sort to get more kids aware and hopefully applying to your school. That's something I saw the ops team drive, with my help (I work on our data team). Hope that helps!

I'm currently reading about charter school best practices and typical challenges for first year schools but feel like I'm not getting any real life examples. It's not the highest paying job but is a non profit that I think I would enjoy working for. really hopeful I land the offer. TIA

That's really cool! Unfortunately I don't have the knowledge to be helpful, but good luck!

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?

Has anyone heard or experienced going on maternity leave, then leaving shortly after returning? Can anyone give me honest feedback on what being a copywriter is like at FCB Health NY? I have an interview but looking on here all I see is *really* negative feedback, so I’m very apprehensive. Glassdoor has a lot of bad reviews too. I’m currently at a smaller agency and I like it, but getting the itch to move up in salary & have more opportunities to produce good work. Tempted by FCB for those reasons, but value work/life balance.

Any specific and actionable advice on how to better articulate your experience in interviews? I feel like I have been working on projects that are above my pay grade and my job descriptions (which my Manager also validated) but I have a hard time when it comes to selling myself in interviews.
