Is it really that difficult to get hired for a federal job? I was interviewed for a GS12 job but never heard back, they still didn’t hire anyone and I didn’t get a rejection. I applied for another GS07 job, was accepted, I took it, but I believe I can do better. I have a master’s and have extra graduate research experience. I am still applying to new jobs but I was told it is impossible to move up the grade level now. Everyone is telling me to stick with the government. What are your thoughts?

Who knows about Goosehead insurances work culture. 5 min into sourcing I’m seeing some discouraging statistics about who they move up faster vs who they don’t. I have a interview this week and I don’t know if I should even continue forward. My main goal is growth and if it’s going to be an unfair environment then that’s a no go.

Last week, I was causally updating my Naukri profile and to my surprise, I saw a Goldman Sachs recruiter bookmark my profile and download my resume. Until then I was of the opinion the I'm a long way from even thinking of applying to GS. That li'l incident has piqued my interest and now I'm obsessed with working for GS.

I’m a non-TX immigration attorney mentoring a UT student who went to my undergrad. He’s done incredibly well in OCI and pre-OCI. Thus far, he’s landed interviews with (all in Houston): Baker Botts, Sidley Austin, Kirkland, Winston Strawn, Reed Smith, Norton Rose, and Locke Lord. Also Perkins Coie in Dallas. I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

I had two interviews with two people at different companies and each time the interviewer had their camera off stating that they are having connection issues. Is that acceptable for candidates to do?

How do you deal with an HR that ghosts you after 3 interviews that went really well? I landed an offer at Deloitte as a sr. consultant, and then negotiated for a managerial role. I was told all interviewers were really happy with me so she would be glad to arrange a reevaluation for the new role(I was interviewed by 2 Sr. Managers & an MD for Sr. Consultant role and will have to take another round with a partner for the managerial position).
