I do not want to disappoint you accept whatever now is tough and picky job market currently . Investment analyst and trade analyst good start but private wealth is easier to get offer and less stress. Just try to put your feet in then switch
Thanks for your response, it’s nice to know the ground reality! I’ll definitely try harder in all directions. May I ask you about your role and what does it look like on a weekly basis. What does it need , to be in a role like yours?
Assuming you are looking to eventually get into fund management (I.e. portfolio manager and/or analyst role)? If so, there are many different routes that can lead you there including the ones you have mentioned. Probably not as common to come from ops, but it does happen. The key is to be young enough (hopefully you are in your 20’s) and continuously be curious. Get in with an asset management shop in some of the roles you mentioned first, then network internally with investors (analysts and PMs). Risk roles are also very good to transition to the portfolio management side. Volunteer for projects with the investment team(s) whenever you can. When a more junior analyst role opens up, raise your hand.
Thanks for your response, that’s a good advice.
I am studying for FRM and quantitative portfolio management, it’s quite addictive. I wish I had know about these fields in my early 20’s. I am definitively curious , I have bachelors in electrical engineering, 2 masters , dropped out of PhD Statistics.
Could you please guide me/DM me what other job titles/ department/ firms I can target ?
PS: I recently moved to New York for better job prospects.
