Not-so-hot take:
People do this all the time, especially in consulting, whether they are aware of it or not.
Pretty privilege is real. I am not lucky enough, but I can’t argue that it isn’t real 🤷🏾
My only workplace flex is that I know with 100% certainty I did not get hired for my looks.
But because of who your parents are
I never physically saw my last recruiter but saw my interviews via zoom. Hmm
Guess it was my skills but I'm also above average looks wise😀

You’re right! 6 out of 10 isn’t too shabby… 😉
lol I can confirm it’s not because of my looks. I’ve done better off video calls because they can focus on my words, and the experience I have related to the job. Whereas on video, I look really young (baby face) despite 10+ years of experience, so I know there’s an unconscious bias they have towards me.
They aren’t ever going to admit this to themselves, but yes. This is what unconscious bias does, we favor people we like or are more attracted to or who remind us of ourselves.
My current client has done this multiple times
Now I understand why I don’t get considered for opportunities
I am a below avg looking woman, background in electrical engineering. I believe I was highered solely due to my humor/charisma. I've been working for 2 yrs at a big 4 and still don't understand basic economics, but I get by! Lol

I hire sales people. I make the hiring selection based on experience, how successful they have been, and potential. I do not hire based on attractiveness. However, in this field (sales) there is a higher than normal amount of attractive people, which also correlates on success.
I have a theory that people are more likely to listen to someone who is attractive and some of the comments here support that theory.
Never hear "the habit doesn't do the monk" or "don't judge a book from the cover" exist because of a bias. If you sell stuff you want to have a good cover, you want the habit.

No. And I looked around and can confirm 95% at D were not hired based on looks. But do let me know if you have any attractive single Ms in their 30s where you work.
Hahahahahaha

Traditionally attractive people are beneficiaries of the halo effect, and get special treatment.
I’ve seen some ugly mofos in the office.
