I’ve found almost everything is better working remote - creativity for sure. Making changes is better because you can work out how to do the changes without 5 people sitting behind you - time management is so much better. You can focus on editing and not so much on entertaining.
If you are young and up and coming working with clients will be so much better for you - but for established editors remote is great.
I hope that we are remote forever.
My company (also NY) is going to a more flex schedule, so only in office when necessary. Personally I hate remote sessions. The social interaction is important to me as a younger editor, to establish real connections with clients. So I would be fine to do in-person sessions with vaccinated clients. Otherwise WFH unless specifically needed in office.

I’ve been hearing from clients a lot of frustration with remote editing

Im vaccinated and I believe it in completely. I get better work and command more respect through in person edits, so personally I can wait till my clients are asking for in person

Yeah it’s a little freaky to think about returning. I imagine my office will have a very loose in-person policy for at least a few months into “normality”. The biggest drag will be carting a drive to/from the office and managing data transfers. But if I’m on a project with like 4 TB of footage I will probably just have to wfh or office for its entirety.

One thing that’s not really getting talked about is how data security has been shifted to my personal house. I’m constantly reminding clients about back ups and stuff but they don’t get it and it’s a hassle for them to be trading drives all the time. So what happens if my drive fails and they didn’t back up on their end like they’re supposed to? I try and hold these conversations at the start of the edit, “who has copies, do I need two on my side, etc.” and it just seems unimportant for them. It blows my mind that clients will pay for a 150k shoot and be so cavalier about the footage, and a significant part of me wanting to partially return to the suite is to not hold so much liability.
