Depends what you mean by UW? LM doesn't really have frontline underwriters. Safeco UWing has really low turnover so roles don't often open.
I say look at different companies and look for underwriting training and development companies. I have heard from someone at Cincinnati they’re open to various P&C experiences, I’ll start there.
We have an UW I that came from claims. They required a lot of training but after searching for a candidate for months, they were our best option. It may be good to look at smaller companies or companies that are a hybrid work environment. They have a harder time finding candidates and may be willing to hire someone that requires more training.
I think claims experience comes useful if applied to the according lob. Try to emphasize the knowledge around the product and how your experience could enhance in underwriting!
