You can’t. Unless they voluntarily share the info with you, it is highly unlikely you can obtain reliable information. They have no requirement to make a public disclosure and are not likely to voluntarily make a disclosure. ONLY caveats are where they are making a identifiable and substantial percentage off government work, such that you may be able to obtain FOIA info related to how much the government paid for legal services. Or where they make a representation as to billable rate when seeking fees in litigation, such that you might then be able to make some reasonable estimate.
Dunno how one would figure it out but in my first 4 months of being a true solo I’ve generated $200k and collected $140k of that. So it better be at least that much 😂
I work at an 11 partner firm. They hide the ball even when they are inviting you to be partner. They will show you information, but it isn't the whole picture, and you have to know what to ask. Plus their actual compensation is much less than they lead everyone to believe. The questions you need answered are what are the draws, how badly do they strip the firm at the end of the year and does this effect draws at the start of the year [i.e., are you going to have to go 4 months without a paycheck as the coffers refill and various 401k and tax obligations are paid in the first quarter], how often are originations paid, how are partner allocations [total pay] computed, etc.
This is so helpful! I'm at this stage and didn't know what to ask.
