Think they did a good job on this piece. It was a truly embarrassing moment for the firm, but I think it’s being handled as well as can be expected. Should go smoothly this year 🤞

I got promoted early to SM
I agree with EY2; it is possible (hence EY1s statement) but it is happening less frequently then it used to but if you are truly a high performer and have the backing of your Service Line Leader it can happen. But also keep in mind on the partner form it asks how many years have you been working (at EY and prior experience). If you are up “too quick” (as determined by leadership) you may end up hanging out as a Sr Mgr (yes at Sr Mgr pay so maybe not all bad, but more of an FYI).
Less common these days
Thanks for all the great feedback! I just switched over to EY and I’m loving the people on my team and the work we do. This seems like a place where I could stay for a long time so I’ve been busting it to do a good job and get recognition. It helps to know that it is at the very least possible to get the early promotions so I can do a better job supporting the family!
I’m in Chicago.
In my group it used to be very common due to business need and only having 1 or 2 people at each level. We have even gotten a few early staff to senior promotions. Now that we have grown there's too many to early promote all
OP - nice! Great city. I am hoping for Cubs v Yankees World Series
Not that common and highly political. In my group you have a way better shot to get promoted early when you have no one up for the next level at the “normal” experience level. But it definitely happens. Partner promoted this year at 36 was promoted early to manager and to senior manager, and the next guy that will get promoted on the next few years was also double early promoted
OP - welcome to EY. In my opinion it is a great firm. No place is perfect but I have found a good “home” here. What office are you in?
Unfortunately, it is not common to early promote, especially lateral hires. In fact, senior 4s and manager 4s are becoming more common. Performance is not the only requirement for promotion. Pipeline, headcount, utilization, margin, and realization are all factors that can impact promotion decisions.
