Do whatever you need to do. Worked up until my delivery both times to maximize leave on the other end and it is stressful. The first time I worked remotely the week before but you’re probably not commuting now anyway. The last two weeks (if you make it to full term) are definitely tough! Congrats on your upcoming arrival ♥️
No paid maternity leave 😤 Please find a new job before having your next kiddo. We get 6 months leave paid, which is amazing. Find a company that values working mothers and parents. Congratulation and enjoy the time!
Where do you work???
I did that. My second pregnancy was really tough and I had a long commute, so my boss and I worked out a deal where I was WFH starting at about 34 weeks and then started my leave (using vacation time) at 38. It was such a relief.
My first baby came at 36 weeks, and I went straight to the hospital from work. Having some breathing room the second time around made a LOT of difference to my overall mental state.
I’ve only ever made it to 37 weeks with both babies, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable if you make it that far along. You are so uncomfortable and can barely move by that point, I can’t imagine there’s a whole lot of productivity to be gained by them.
Take the extra time! It will be worth it! I was encouraged by my EVP to work until the end- bad advice! Baby came early and I was stressed bc work was not tied up neatly when I had to go to the hospital. No one will bat an eye- tell them the date your leave is starting.
To save your vacation time, I’m tempted to just say scale back to one week before pregnancy and literally play the ‘I’m so pregnant, so please don’t mess with me or try to give me actual work’ for the week two weeks prior to you’re due date. I mean, you’re about to give birth, it’s frustrating to hear when women are scraping days together so they can rest at such a crucial time...given the lack of maternity leave at so many companies still. Sorry if this comes off snarky. having had 2 kids while working in advertising, I want you to have all the time you need with as little stress as possible. Short answer, definitely take the time, and two weeks is very common given a baby can come anywhere from 2 weeks early to two weeks late. And congratulations! 🍼 🎉
My boss was really encouraging about taking time off before the due date. It was so worth it, too. Those are the last days you have to yourself, and to you and your SO. I’d say go for it!
I can’t remember the details, but I think you can use Short Term Disability before and after delivery. I don’t think it’s full-pay, but better than nothing. I think it varies by state, but worth looking into. Congrats and good luck!
Wish I had thought to sign up for that before getting pregnant. From what I researched my pregnancy would now be considered a preexisting condition so wouldn’t be covered 🤦🏼♀️
Do it. I planned to stop working 11 days before my scheduled c section. My baby had other plans and my water broke the first day of my PTO. At least I was relaxing on the couch and not on a Teams call.
Congratulations! Absolutely do it. I worked (literally) until I went to the hospital in labor and I regret it. I wish I had a time to get my head in check beforehand but I didn’t want to give up any of my maternity time with my son (the great conundrum). All my best to you!

Eats into your paid leave...but you do you.
Frankly, if they did care... screw em! This is time in your life you’ll never get back. And assuming it’s your first, it’s the end of a pretty big chapter (and the start of an exciting new one). Cherish the time as much as you can.
Do it if you can!!
