You can say something like, "I’m looking for new challenges and opportunities to grow my skills. I’ve enjoyed my time in my current role but feel it’s time to take on new responsibilities that align with my career goals.”
It's usually best to talk about how you want to find something that aligns with your long-term goals. If you have specific goals to cite, all the better. The thing to avoid, of course, is getting negative about your current situation. People often interpret that badly, justifiably or not.
I'm aligning my carrier with my long term goals. That's it no more explanation
Wow, I hope you find your self and better have an personal encounter with God ... but thankfully I figured out long time ago, I know what Im doing and I do it with love (may be younger the how I was going to donit didn't have a clue but my eyes where in the goal) my identity is not in my career or possessions I'm a child of God, my identity relays on Christ (with that I dont have to "fake it till you make it") ... Besides that I know what I want since a young age (i may get lost on the way it happens but you get yourself back).
Sometimes we have to use some position as a step to scale to the next one. When you get this type of question you have to give a close ended response because if you give a open ended answer they will re-ask... Yep the world is chaos but not because people crash in cars or airplane you not going to use one, or because people choke on food your will stop eating or don't go to a beach or pool because people drow right 🙌🙌 Life is not perfect but try to pay more attention to the good 😉
Answer: I need MORE money to pay my bills as the cost of living and life period is getting too expensive. As for why am I leaving my current job well they’re not salary competitive. It’s a jungle out here and I need help to keep from going under.
To advance yourself
I always say that I am looking for a job that provides better opportunities for career advancement. I tell them that I have reached as high as I can really go with the company I am at and as someone who is very career driven I need to be somewhere that allows me opportunities to move my way up the career ladder.
I like this, unless they're interviewing in a small office and there IS no ladder to climb.
What are your main reasons? If you have a few but don't know how to answer "diplomatically" maybe we can help! 😄
$$$$$$$$$$
And it’s a for-profit private teaching hospital so I’ll have patients that actually want to be there rather than homeless people that (it feels like) they pick up on the curb when there’s open beds.
How to best answer when they simple ask to interview... Tell me about yourself?
Thank you I used to be a perfectionist but I'm doing better now. I got the job! Thank you...
see according to other commenter here i've been way too honest. The last few times I was asked that I told them straight up that the expectations my last job created exceeded what me and the other workers were able to carry. I usually inform that just about everyone has now left the company due to poor management.
I usually also try to throw in that I also wanted a change of pace from what I had been doing for 6 years as I was feeling burnt out in that job.
Apparently hiring people really don't care why you left, they want everything positive, sunshine and rainbows. So I'm learning that moving forward you have to say as others have said, that I just want a change of pace and am looking to expand my skills. Much more positive and doesn't dump on the last place I came from, though the last place totally deserves it, but they want someone focused on positive and not negative when interviewing.
I don't judge a candidate that shares a negative situation in their current office. I've been there myself. I'd rather have them tell the truth. Now if it's the same excuse for every job they've left, there's only one common denominator.
The purpose of the question is to weed out the drama queens and potential problem people. It's not about what they want to hear... it's what they don't want to hear. Telling them "I was stressed out and wanted to shoot up the place" is a red flag.
I interviewed someone once and in answer to this question I got "Because my supervisor is an a##hole." They did not get the job.
I need to be positioned as an advocate, a sounding board, an available partner in the life of a compromised person. Most often one without access to services and respectful care; without a voice.
For a healthcare system to embrace my purpose, my committment and support, the cost, perhaps, more than bugeted.
I think I would definitely be honest but in a civil manner to a degree. But I also would mention that I’m looking for new experiences and new things to learn as well.
I just had this question. I answered honestly, and said I am looking for a career to grow and advance, not just a job.
Never denigrate your previous employer, coworkers, or manager. Put it in terms of positives, looking to learn new skills, new challenges, expand your knowledge base, new populations, wanting to specialize, etc.
I’m looking to expand my skills by learning new experiences
To answer that question, which yes I've been through also. I say my job isn't snt secure anymore do to so many changes in the rules that it feels unsecure.
And it's true on my behalf because the company I was employed by got bought out 2 times in the 10 years I was employed there.
In my case the company I left was notorious in our industry. I asked them if they knew anything about my company, and they volunteered that they have hired a few from there before. I just answered, “Ok, so you know.” Interviewers gave big grin and moved on.
My response is I am looking for a stable company with opportunity for professional growth.
Anything from career progression/expanding your skill set works. Or wanting to learn a new position or different “world” of your profession even.
I always tend to focus on growth, & that this position also aligns with my education.
