These are a few things that help me. I have to work from my personal phone on a regular basis, making it hard to fully disconnect: 1.) Focus modes. Set your work focus to only colleagues, work related apps, and maybe your kids or something in case of an emergency. 2.) Notifications. Turn them off for everything except for texts and other work-related apps that you have to use. 3.) Get a stress cube or a similar fidget toy to keep your hands busy with.
A1, Chicago is not “extremely violent”, the city struggles with gun violence and crime (same as other major cities), but the media narrative that people love to recite when talking about Chicago is exaggerated to a laughable degree.

Turn it to greyscale. Really helps reduce the dopamine you get from picking up your phone
this is the only thing that works for me
Put your phone in a separate room while working
My first thoughts exactly. Try this for a day and you’ll see a major difference in work and minimized distractions.

Change the frame of reference - stop working.

Correct. And please stop getting distracted by work when you do that.

Turn it off until 5 pm
That’s weird and not a good exercise to be on your phone during the work day. Tell her you need to focus
Change of scenery once in a while
Focus modes if you use an iPhone
I recently started doing this and it's very helpful. I limit the notifications to a few important people and apps, but most other notifications go unnoticed from 8-5
Go into office or a coworking space. More peer pressure to focus
get a dumbphone
What helped me was simply to remove the apps from my phone that took up lots of my time, but added zero happiness. Twitter, FB, Instagram— all deleted. I don’t miss them a bit.
If SD1 is like me it brings nothing but shame due to hearing under 35’s making 250k+
try the pomodoro technique
set a timer to 25 mins to work on a task, reward yourself with 5 mins of phone time, repeat

Practice that’s all
I read somewhere that we tend to do the same thing for the rest of the day that we do after we waking up. I've tried it and I think maybe it's true. I don't touch my phone until I'm ready to have breakfast, and now I've significantly decreased my phone screen time.
