How do I tell my team that the business is experiencing major financial problems? I'm anxious to tell them, but I want to be transparent.

Let them know that unfortunately, the business has been experiencing some major financial issues lately, and it's important that you let everyone know so you can come up with solutions together.

You could say that you've had some unexpected costs arise as well as a decrease in revenue which have put you in this tough spot. It's not ideal but I'm confident that if you all work hard together, you can come up with creative solutions to help get us through these rough times.

I think it's important that you let them know about what's happening and the extent of the problem. You don't want them to stick with you if their jobs aren't secured.

As the leader of the team, I think it's nice you want to be open and honest about what's going on so that everyone is aware of the situation.

Above all continue to communicate openly and often as we navigate this difficult period, they will understand and I'm sure some of them will get in the trenches with you.

6th year associate. I’m in the weird position where partners bring me in on big cases and expect me to do it all myself. I’m expected to act like a partner but also get their approval on every little decision. And also I can’t bring in a newer associate because I’m the associate, even through I’m technically by myself. Trying a case in June and I’m pretty sure the partner doesn’t even know what it’s about, yet he loves to critique every decision I make.

A company didn’t follow through with a scheduled intro phone call. I emailed during the time scheduled to see if something had come up & after as well to reschedule. No one answered me or followed up. I can’t help but feel like this is a little red flag. If you can’t follow though on an intro call… what’s your HR & the rest of the company doing? 😬

I was working at a Hotel one night & I saw a man appearing on two different floors, then in the stairwell. The man was in his 70’s or 80’s. He was wearing nothing but tidy whiteys. When he got to the front desk I asked “is everything alright? Are you okay?” (Assuming he may be senile),He wasn’t senile, he went swimming & wanted to make me uncomfortable and started to flirt while in his sopping wet see through tidy whiteys- and of course I had to clean up the water he tracked through the lobby.

Does anyone else find it more stressful in some ways to deal with small clients? As a 1st year I field cold calls, and ended up dealing with a small claims matter where he just wanted help dealing with papers he was served with + next steps. I’ve been prioritizing other things, but I feel bad for the dude so have been putting some time into walking him through this. It’s tough because it isn’t a huge sum compared to what I usually work with, but for him it’s basically life-changing.

I'm feeling a lot of anger towards my manager (now he's acting normal but there were moments where he was condescending/dismissive/mocked my and others work/arrogant/said stuff was "wrong" constantly/belittling the difficulty of tasks etc. in the past project).
Maybe it is "standard chewing out" but it bothered me a lot. So much that I find myself still getting all fired up inside thinking about it...
Idk how to let go of this :/ Thoughts?

I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren

All I ever hear about is hiring- why are we not going after partners for overselling? While I know we have all kinds of data/apps in our firms to try to make proposals and scoping a bit more evidence based, I think most partners have some gut feeling of how much capacity the firm has and just sell based on that. It seems like there is no systemic effort whatsoever to see if we can do the work we’re selling with the resources we have, which then leads to impossible deadlines and burn out.
