Making himself at home in my home office!

Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.
So here are my questions.
How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.
When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Thanks in advance!

More to the point, I do such personal stuff as I need to during the work day from the firm laptop - assuming that it’s not p0rn etc (which would be a whole other issue, regardless of laptop), I wouldn’t bother separating.

Choices, I guess….
I use this riser: Rain Design mStand360 Laptop... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008JIGL08?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I place the laptop that I’m not using on the bottom.
Both computers use Usbc connections so I use the same power and monitor cords between the two.
I use a keyboard and mouse that connects to multiple devices.
My monitor is a BenQ and it works great!
Bigger desk
Lol!
Tbh since working from home I very rarely use my personal laptop, I get some personal stuff done during the week (I rarely finish work before midnight so it’s inevitable you have to do personal stuff during “work” time), and other during the weekend but would mostly use my work laptop either way. It’s set up to my dual screens, mouse, keyboard etc so it’s way easier to work on than my 13” MacBook screen. I’ve been here 4 years and it’s never been an issue.
So the usb you have allows the mac or personal laptop to connect to your work docking station? that would be awesome and I would defo use my mac way more!
Try putting your monitor on a riser and tucking the laptop under there
Oh that’s a good idea
How on earth do you do legal work on a laptop? I would be so inefficient without two screens. And if I need to do something personal, I do it on my firm computer. There is not anything I can think of I’ve ever done that would require such privacy I’d need a second device.
What year is this? I take care of 95% of my personal business on my smart phone. Who uses a computer to talk to their spouse, check their bank accounts, or buy personal items anymore? I keep my personal computer in my desk drawer and pull it out when absolutely necessary, which is rare.
I bought an L-Shaped desk for my home office. One side has my personal laptop and a big monitor for it. Then in the corner I have my work laptop, docking station and two monitors for the work laptop. Then the other side has desk room for books/files/whatever thing like that I might need that day.
What brand l shaped desk did you get? I was looking into l shaped desks but so many are narrow :/
Hey, it is a little bit expensive solutions but as my flat is quite small i really need to optimise the space.
You can buy either (i) a docking station and just plug in when you go from one computer to the other or (ii) buy a KVM which will basically use the same hardware (screen, mouse, keyboard and usb) for both computer plugged in. You just need to press a button to switch between the two.
I choosed the KVM as my personnal computer is not a laptop.
Thank you!
I use dual screens for both on the same desk. The "Game Changer" for using both was an HDMI switch board. I have an Insignia 4KUHD and can switch between both with the press of a button. Also can single wield if I want (ie on a Zoom meeting and wife needs something printed from personal computer I can switch one). Need HDMI per monitor though.

The switchboard is on top of the work laptop.
I put work laptop on top of closed personal laptop during the day. It's not sure or needed so a nice paperweight.
I do a single big USB-C monitor on a desk mount arm. Both my personal MacBook Pro and my work Dell connect to it and all my peripherals connect. Works great. Lots of room on my desk with the monitor off it, and it’s at a much better height for neck strain.
Do you just unplug and plug in the USB-C to whichever laptop you use? Or do you have a switch or dock to change display source?
This is an expensive option, but worth it if you can pay for it. My old firm gave us work laptops, but they were so small I could not get anything done from how (this was pre pandemic). I bought my own Mac desktop as the screen is so large I can easily have two docs next to each other. This helped me out when the pandemic first hit. I just connect to my remote access through my personal desktop. Ended up buying a LG monitor that wasn't pricey and it's a great setup. But I can still get a lot done just off my iMac as the screen is so large. If I need to do something personal, I just close out remote access.
Oh nice! I need to ask if my firm allows remote access through a Citrix type environment.
I have a laptop stand and my monitor will work with both my work and personal laptop. I rarely use my personal laptop tbh but if I do need to I just switch the monitor cable. You can also get a laptop “space saver” (not sure what it’s actually called) if you don’t need to open your laptop to work.
