How do signing bonuses work for laterals? Is it basically just paying out your year end bonus, or is there anything extra?

Is there a scale? For example, a 3rd year can expect X amount but a 5th year can expect Y. It feels like there’s such a black box and there’s no information online.

Maybe it’s just the region I’m in but I’ve noticed a ton of lateral movement, not Covid levels but close.

I have got an offer letter from Morgan Stanley for the QA role in regulatory reporting. Currently I am in a BA role with 7 yrs experience. In MS they are giving a good hike (45%) plus joining bonus. Not sure at this stage should i switch from BA to QA role.

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?

Ok, I’m preaching to the choir here, but I’m a mid-level lateral, and I get most of my work now from an absolutely toxic partner that I am basically assigned to (firm is very siloed and partner doesn’t like sharing associates). I am getting to the point where I don’t take the tirades personally, but the obvious lack of good leadership leaves me incredibly unmotivated. Very Noob question: First year here that has done DD for a couple of deals representing the seller now. Essentially all I did was note whether certain agreements have change of control provisions, and if so, what the specific language is. I understand what the CoC do, but why am I doing this?
