How do you discuss race with a toddler? Unfortunately, our kindergartner's teacher sent out an email basically letting us know that a racist comment was made in class. It wasn't my kid who made the comment, but I still feel like I need to have a conversation about it. I want to keep it positive and on his level, but I also need to make sure he understands how serious it is.

Agreed on books. My wife and I also go out of our way to a playground so my girls (2 4-year olds and 2 year-old) can play with diverse group of kids.

In my opinion, the best way to combat racism and prejudice is for my kids to have a diverse group of friends.

There are some really good kid books on this, my kid is sleeping otherwise I would go take a picture of it.

It lays it out in the terms they get, we fold this into our nightly book routine

The comment was made by an adult or TV near that child. I would not complicate the issue by introducing race as the topic but more about manners and not to name call.
Keep it simple and concise.

I have toddlers and they are mixed, so I have been thinking about this as well and not sure how best to handle as we live in a very non-diverse place. As other poster said, we get a lot of good ideas from books and online courses.

Really appreciate the question. Following. Good luck brother.

Spent the pandemic working on myself, got sober, focused on working out, left the music industry and started a career where I can make money and have a steady work schedule. Maybe this isn’t everyone’s version of “growing up” but that’s what this was for me. Now that I’m vaxed and seeing my friends, it’s clear we have little left in common, and honestly a lot of the things they do straight up embarrasses me. I don’t want to lose these long term friends. Has anyone else been in this situation?

So I have been seeing a guy for 4 months. We have a pay disparity.. he earns less than I do (by quite a bit). He has mentioned a few times that he’s worried I’ll get bored of him when I know he can’t afford the same things I can. I think we are beginning to move past this, but now he’s starting to mention things like ‘I am really broke this month’, and last weekend he told me his mum has lost her job and he’ll have to probably pay her rent. I have a lot of sympathy for his situation … tbc

So recently my SO has been accusing me of being in control of when we are intimate (sex and cuddling). She says that every time she wants to I say no - and whenever I want to - she says yes. So it's by default doing whatever I want when I want. It's a gross exaggeration of what's happening - but does anyone ever deal with something like this? How do you say no to something like that - without your partner thinking you're just looking out for yourself or you're controlling?
