Oh dear that’s a tough question.
It’s probably different for each person. For me it’s sensation and also the thought patterns. Anxiety stops me from doing things out of fear (what if you fail? You’re making a mistake?) and it’s usually concentrated in the upper body/head.
intuitive thoughts manifest in the gut and center more around encouragements (you won’t know the outcome until you try. So what if you fail?).
It’s only recently that I’ve been trying to “tune into intuition.” I guess how i think about it: anxiety is like this separate thing that freaks out over every little thing while gut feeling is the supportive feeling that says - trust me, something isn’t right.
Sorry, I’m probably not making much sense
Take a Xanax or have a few drinks to lower your anxiety and see if you still feel the same way
Or both and then you'll go to sleep and forget all about it
It’s usually a combo of both. I see it as anxiety being an underlying condition that is triggered by things that can sometimes be overcome, but sometimes can’t or are not worth overcoming. you can manage/overcome certain triggers but if you feel like you’ve
...Tried and tried and nothing makes any difference then maybe it’s not right. Also agree with the posts about it being a “gut” feeling and the one saying that if your usual temporarily effective chemical methods don’t quash it, it’s not right.
Your gut tends to surround you with a rationale and feeling. Anxiety feels fleeting, impulsive, constraining and limiting. Gut feels more focused and clear. It is hard but when something doesn’t feel right, it is usually your gut.
OP - a good therapist exercise would be: pretend like you’re a lawyer and you’re cross examining a witness. Could you poke holes in the case (whatever you’re worried about). If yes, likely is anxiety related. If it seems legit, a true thorough examination, it’s probably accurate feelings.
What’s the context, OP?
Anxiety is feeling an overwhelming negative emotion that when rationalized doesn’t make sense and most people wouldn’t get this anxious about.
Gut feeling when I have a thought that I feel I believe so strongly and I get hit with a faint voice of consciousness telling me to reconsider.
Anxiety : going into this bar makes me really uncomfortable because there’s such a big crowd
Gut feeling : this person seems nice to talk to but I have a sense that they’re trying to manipulate me

This is a good explanation. I have studied mindfulness and have a mindfulness practice. It helps me observe my feelings — am I feeling this way based on what is going on right now that is factual (gut) or am I jumping to conclusions or making up stories where facts are missing (anxiety).
