I understand what you mean and timing was going to be strange regardless (one of the recipients told me they’ve already had to sit on the positive news for nearly 2 months), but I see them as mutually exclusive events. Seeing friends being rewarded is great and a positive silver lining that the firm will remain committed to promoting people even through difficult times. That said, don’t get me started on our firm’s review and promotion system…
What don't you like about the promotion and review process?
Seeing very good people being told after 9-12 months to spend 21 to 24 months (most likely 24h in the role with 0% ramping, and either a majority of ramped or exceeding depending on projects (>50% exceeding on average), without valuable reasons, is a joke..
Communicating on fast track promotions right after this is terrible timing.
Be careful not losing your valuable A/C/SC/M assets to MBBs or good Tier 2 firms in the next 8 months as the market is already recovering, this is more impactful than it sounds and high performing people won’t stay forever when they are just 3 months ahead of average performers.
Promos in the US weren't affected. Was it different in Europe?
I am happy for them. Congratulations on securing a promotion in the toughest consulting market in a decade!
Not expecting too many issues on A>C and C>SC promotion timeline despite the obvious business challenges. Experienced A, C and SC are extremely valuable for Altman Solon if you consider how important firm-specific knowledge here is. M>P should also be fine. Ps take on more projects than M and are well worth their money. SC>M is where things could get tight in the next round. As soon as business picks up again, though, I can see promotions being handed out like candy. These past years have clearly shown the value of having staff steeped in Altman Solon workflows. With such a long time to ramp, I can see the firm doing a lot to retain valuable staff across all seniority levels once we get busy again.
