If I have any hand in bringing an idea—especially a good one—to life, I’m putting it in my book.
Imposter syndrome is for suckers. You don’t get to ACD by accident. Be humble but don’t be afraid to let them know you kick ass.
If you’re the one who was entrusted with seeing the concept through then make it with all your skills and abilities and take the credit when it’s done along with the originators of the idea
Better than the freelancer whose idea it was.

It was my boss’s idea
I don’t mean to sound salty but it’s your job, ffs. Is it going to be the best part of your job, that fulfills you creatively? No. But it’s your job. Get it done and hope the next project will be better.
Just see it as an opportunity to have a slash with your name on it. Countless people put their name on Whopper Freakout at Crispin. But I was there when Bogusky walked into the conference room and said “I’ve got this idea…”. Funny how fast people jumped in and volunteered on that. Not saying it’s right or wrong. Just providing some context on ways to reframe things.
It’s not ideal. But sometimes you need to step up and help get the work done, — and there’s a lot of value in that. We have jobs, and not always have the luxury of choosing what projects we work on. If your Creative Director is requesting your help, do the best you can. You might not be able to add it to your book if you don’t feel you have enough conceptual ownership, but you will get some experience out of it.

sounds great.
you're getting paid the same but without the painful check-ins, the late nights, the pressure, and the fear of coming up short.

no I already did all those. especially the last one. overarching concept was originally mine but ECD’s execution was chosen and developed by a freelancer.
This question is foreign to me. My job has always been to help others - I am a service provider - for my clients and my teams. I celebrate anyone and everyone who brings good ideas to the table, and politely minimizing any praise they give me for whatever I may have brought.
You treat it like it’s your job and you enjoy the travel and edit meals. When I freelance, I often feel like I’m babysitting someone else’s babies. Just keep the project alive and get paid.
You're actually producing something good? Rejoice. Not joking. Too many among us don't even get to sniff such opportunities that often. I get where you're coming from, but better to be a gear in a Porsche than the designer of the Pinto. You can put that on a shirt if you like.
And in the future it’ll be your job to pitch ideas to clients that aren’t yours. Be ok with it. Make everything you touch better. This is the way.

thanks, great perspective
It’s a job. Why so emotional? Just do what they ask you and make it great. The creatives they took it away from should be worried. Not you
What point of the process is it in?

I can’t and won’t do it, and I will starve on this hill if I have to. I only choose to pursue ideas I’ve never heard or seen before, which feel real and authentic to me and my voice. I’m not going to be another redundant version of someone else, I vehemently refuse. But definitely interested in selling ideas to someone else who wants that type of recognition!! The perceived attention/ clout always taints my voice and makes me feel silly, then the whole thing feels a bit performative. I make art because the process fills me with life and then I choose to share it, not the other way around. I know this perspective is childish as hell, and is possibly why I haven’t been able to maintain connections with larger brands, and I’ve seen my style blossom and refine itself over the past year!! Definitely not changing a single thing, and I challenge you all to do the same ;)
Edit: I read other comments, seems a lot of you have a more focused work ethic than I do, maybe I should just suck it up and work differently/ change how I look at it😂 maybe a “it’s a collaborative effort and I pickup where you leave off” fits better for this
