If you have an ounce of acting chops, pick the most confident person you know and use them as a model for your new role. Be that person in meetings. In any business interaction. Smile confidently. Stand with your arms on your hips. Take up more space. Be really aware of your body language. Your old role is gone. The new you is confident and loves themselves but keeps their ego in check. If you can’t act, try starting an anonymous blog about the subject you need to be an expert in. Write about it. Research it. Live it in your head. After a month of writing you will begin to express yourself on that subject with confidence. Whatever you do, remember, you are the best person in your life. You matter. You have value to others. Does that make sense?
Yes makes sense- sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write this!
Oddly our brains are wired to default to our survival brain when we’re under perceived stress. Get curious about the moments where you’re putting yourself down. What happened? Is it with particular people? Under particular circumstances? Notice patterns and then get curious about what your mind might be trying to protect you against. E.g. if you find you are putting yourself down around peers is it because you’re worried about coming across as arrogant or out shining others? This awareness might be enough to change your thinking and therefore your actions, but if not, it’s time to rewire your brain and actively choosing in those moments to compliment yourself vs put yourself down. Over time, the more you can make this conscious choice, you’ll notice the less you’re putting yourself down. Good luck!
