Consider the bridge burned. To the ground!
oof they’re gonna be mad probably no matter what but ultimately ya gotta do whats best for you. just be honest, grateful, and maybe refer a couple peeps you trust to replace ya
Just be honest that you got an unexpected opportunity that you couldn’t pass up - be gracious and offer to help in whatever way you can with your remaining time.
You will burn the bridge lol.
Here’s what you do: you get on zoom, you don’t say a word, you just look at them for like 30 seconds. Then you stand up and piss your pants - right in front of them. They’ll know who’s boss. Then you tell them that you’re leaving. They’ll have to respect your decision.
This is my kind of response right here. To build, I’d add by saying “me go wee wee” then say “me go quitty quitty! Bye bye!” Then sit back down, apologize and continue the conversation like that didn’t just happen.
If it’s a place that’s fairly busy, they won’t even remember in a year. Plus, there’s so many agencies it doesn’t matter. Do what’s best for you and consider it a mulligan.
Yeaaaaaaaah I don’t know that there’s a way to do this other than ripping off the band aid. Tell them the truth, say you appreciated the opportunity, and hopefully they had other candidates from the last go around who they can reconnect with.
The bridge is burned for 4-6 years. Give them the option to walk right away or stay for up to three weeks. Apologize profusely and be transparent in your reasoning.
HR person here. I can confirm that records are kept and now that everything is electronic you can likely expect the record to be kept for eternity. I can view employee records from 20+ years ago. What matters here is whether they mark you eligible for rehire or not. If you give them two weeks notice, you’ll probably be fine.

Give them two weeks and don’t look back. FFS, they’d lay you off with no notice if they felt like they needed to.

And 2 weeks is literally notice when you don’t want to stay at a job for whatever reason. Absolutely wild to see people steaming over OP’s situation as if they’re contemplating ghosting their job or something. “At will” works both ways.
I vowed to never forget the person’s name that did this to me, 5 years later I couldn’t tell you their name. Just accept that it’s very unprofessional and make it a 1x in a career type thing if you absolutely must take this job.
there’s no way to do this and come out looking great. your goal is to just mitigate the damage. and don’t make a habit out of it.
I did this. I just let them know the truth. Gave them a resignation letter and went on my merry little way.
