You should def talk about it openly but also — Does your home have a room? Can you choose to lock yourself in a room and work there whether you’re on calls or not?
My bf and I are taking turns taking the room for calls but it sounds like for your situation if you talk to them and they remain adamant about the weird feeling then maybe it’s better to keep the space separated and just come out of the room for lunch/bathroom breaks. It also just sounds like something they’re gonna have to get over for the next x amount of time lol.
My bf and I live together and he is ignoring me while we wfh. I don’t mind though it’s probably doing me a favor 😂
I have zero relationship experience cause I’m single & haven’t lived with anyone but could you talk to her? Preface as setting ground rules or just expressing how you usually work? Creative inspiration is a tricky thing. Like when you’re getting close to an insight or in the flow, an interruption can be terrible.
I am the annoying one. The repetition and visible blockers like over ear headphones help. Also give her a BIG HUG or whatever gesture and chat for 2 minutes every so often. If most interactions are brushing her off she will get tired of it because it becomes impossible to know when you’re off limits and it becomes weird if you can’t talk for 5 minutes every so often!
You know, I was just talking about this with my B/f. Same - we live in a one bedroom and if we both had to work at home, that’s going to be really tricky. We only have one tiny bistro style table. All these people who are crying about not having mandatory wfh haven’t thought of anyone but themselves! There are so many factors to consider. Would be a nightmare for me. My b/f easily has calls and meetings for the best part of the day and I write content and video scripts - I either watch 30 videos a day or I need quiet to write! Logistical nightmare. We kind of got to a place where we thought one of us would have to go to a coffee shop 🤷♀️
As someone who needs quiet while I think I use noise cancelling headphones. You could also try a system where you put up a post it when you’re really in the zone. And then just write one (or more) post its with sweet notes to your spouse!
Put on headphones and say you won’t be able to hear her.
Reminds me of my FIL- man literally can’t bear silence for more than 2 minutes, even during movies. And the funniest part is he thinks he’s “a quiet person”.
Worth a conversation about it if you haven’t had one already.
And note, it’s going to be longer than a few weeks.
Be clear and gently explain / set boundaries around work and break time. Explain it’s serious (being monitored more bc of wfh)
