Good. I don't like to work anyway.

Not convinced that AI is going to take much of anything in our field, but a few of my Indian colleagues are probably better at my job than I am, so if they take my job they probably earned it.

EY. I'm not saying it's very many of them, proportionally, but I definitely have a few seniors and managers who really shine. I also probably have worked with like half of all GDS, and out of those I can name four or five people who have really impressed me, so, not an amazing track record, on the whole.

It’s the American Way. Me and not we. $37 trillion in debt. TikTok fame. Greed. Quarterly results versus 5 year results.

They’re not taking our jobs from us, our employers are taking our jobs from us.

They’ve been saying Indians would take our job for the last 30 years…

Be been doing this for 30 years…use of offshore has increased but gradually. Still have same number of staff. The most recent cuts were due to overhiring in reaction to ipo/spac boom, egc work after Covid.

I used AI last night to enhance a power BI dashboard. It took about 30 minutes of back-and-forth prompting for it to give me the instructions necessary to build in the enhancement. What I was trying to do was not overly complicated, and if I was a bit sharper with databases and DAX, I would’ve figured it out myself in the same amount of time.

I also send a lot of tax work to India. I then spend almost as much time fixing it and writing notes so that it hopefully comes back better next time. I cannot understand why a reviewed spreadsheet comes back with broken formulas on a regular basis, but this is a thing. I would much rather it come back incomplete than broken. This seems to be a cultural difference, and those differences do not just go away. I think my job is safe.

Your job is safe but more stressful… you lost members from your team, doing double the work, for the same shitty pay

Yea. Capitalism at its finest. I don’t expect America to take care of its people anymore.

like

You don’t understand capitalism… the whole point is that we don’t have to rely on the government (ie America) to take care of us. The free market allows us to take care of ourselves by offering opportunities for all with drive and ambition…

Sucks but we knew it was coming 10 years ago

AI is still a long ways away from fully replacing onshore resources. Similar to offshore it will reduce the number of people firms need but not replace.

Also AI is going to impact the countries that benefit from offshore first before it impacts the US since AI will first replace easy/ repetitive tasks that are sent offshore.

like

Agree with this

Yup, I'm concerned about this too. My role is being outsourced to India. With so many middle class jobs outsourced to India it does have me thinking of a job that can't be replaced. Something customer facing, or hands on maybe? Perhaps still something finance related but more niche?

like

I’m Indian so no complaints on my end

You’re mad at the wrong people

like

Meh - accounting majors in US colleges have been on the decline for years. We need people. AI and India are not taking jobs that anyone wants. They are a support system, we just need to learn how to efficiently utilize them. They won't replace the good people here that are the faces the clients see and the humans the clients talk to.

Not great to be honest, because if your role isn’t replace you’ll promote yourself into managing a team with a crazy language barrier and turnover. I do think the quality will go up over time, but for now needing to write walkthroughs down to the keystroke is exhausting. Ultimately ill find a way to adapt, it’s just frustrating knowing leadership at my company will smile while pulling the ladder up in domestic workers.

How!

I hope AI and Indians will make my day 8 hours instead of 12-15 hours… someday -_- [audit]

An Indian using AI is gonna take your job.

Hi Everyone, I am trying to apply for a Technical Support role at Dropbox I’m entering all the required fields but there seems to be an issue, when I hit submit after filling the form, it doesn’t submit and throws error ‘Looks like you left this blank! Please fill out this required field’ when all the fields are entered already (I have checked so many times, and filled the form from scratch several times too). Anyone from Dropbox who can put me in touch with HR or suggest what I should do next?

My work quality is slipping due to brain fog and mental health issues and I don’t know how to address it with my firm or who to go to. I was considered one of the best associates in our practice group, but now it can take me 3-4x the time to write an average brief. I can’t seem to think and organize my thoughts any more. This is incredibly scary bc obvi, that’s what this job is all about. I’m in IP litigation at a V50 firm and a mom. Do I raise it with partners and how?

I’m struggling at the moment to gauge how much I should be getting paid in my position as i feel I’m heavily underpaid for the work I do, which includes managing digital marketing operations across 12+ countries, manage the studio/creatives plus lead on any campaigns and strategies, etc. I’m also remote UK-based although my company is international. So what do you feel a fair UK wage would be for the role? I love my job/team but the stress isn’t worth it for me atm. Thanks in advance!

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
