Marcum if you want to be under a CEO who forced employees to work in person during the pandemic (and didn't stop until multiple got sick).
RSM if you want unlimited PTO and constantly surrounded by big 4 wannabes. Work big 4 hours with none of the prestige; great learning opportunity!
I had a terrible experience moving from pwc to RSM. Rsm has a ton of crappy little jobs. Very high pressure to eat hours which means you work a lot more than you bill. At pwc you would be in trouble if you did that or even suggested it. RSMs technology is where pwc was 10!years ago. You can’t even call your benefits people you have to send an email and wait a couple of days. I did not love pwcs help line but it was light years ahead of RSM.
I am former RSM and I think the hours are better for those manager and above than big 4. They still expect the same hours during busy season for associates and seniors as big 4. It also depends on the service line and your team,
Then why did you transfer? Just curious.
Take jobs at both. Collect two paychecks and do half the normal work. Decide in a couple months which one is better and send the other computer back. Profit.
The one that pays more for less work and has a better fit
Talk to the people and go with the ones you like the best.

Mid tier vs no tier
RSM (former employee) made the switch to private side as a controller. Got great opportunities there. Feel free to message me if you need more info.
I work for Marcum and love it, feel free to message me if you have any questions!
Firm doesn't matter. The local office and the people matter. I work at RSM because this office in my chosen market is the best place for me. Big4 offices here are like 50 people across all LOBs and primarily focused on an industry I'm not interested in.
I like it here and we've been WFH for like a full year. It's not much to write home about though. If I got the right offer from industry I'd bounce and not look back. RSM is the only firm I'd consider in this market though.
Why not go to big 4?
Just asking in terms of let’s say Big 4 is not in the picture, is RSM that much of a better firm than Marcum but not as great as Big 4?

Marcum is a decent firm with a ton of SEC clients. I think you'd have a better experience if you stick to the bigger offices and avoid the smaller ones (like Nashville or Portland, ME)
