I plan to arrive at the airport 30 minutes prior to the start of boarding. (I realize that’s cutting it close for some people but we spend our lives in airports and that’s plenty of time for me)
Normally it means I can grab a coffee prior to boarding but every once in awhile it means I’m walking on the plane with a later group.
That’s for domestic. I don’t normally travel internationally for work and personal vacations are very different since my husband likes LOTS of extra time in the airport prior.
I usually arrive 45 minutes before departure. I live right near my airport though. Usually target 1 hour before if I have a significant cab ride. For international I try for 2.5 hours before. Don’t wanna mess with that
International flights I do 3 hours because lounge 🤷🏻♂️
If you don’t miss two flights a year you are spending too much time in airports
I aim for an hour-ish before takeoff to arrive at the airport. International there’s no difference in security stateside so about the same.
15 minutes before boarding, but I also live 15 minutes with normal traffic from my airport so traffic can’t kill my flight too badly. I try to minimize my time in airports period
If checking in suitcase then most airlines require you to be there 45 mins before boarding. Have an international flight tomorrow from JFK, I plan on leaving 3 hours before because of checking in suitcase and missing an intl flight is way too hectic
Arrive at LGA twenty minutes before takeoff get through security in five, run to gate before doors close at the ten minute mark
I cut it close in dfw- I’m a cut it close type and have more than a handful of missed flights to show for it. On Monday’s, 30 minutes before boarding for terminals A or C... 10 for all others
I arrive 30 mins before takeoff. DCA and have clear and not checking
It really depends on Airport and Precheck
When DCA was home would arrive 20-30 min before departure. Now in NYC it depends. Frequently it depends upon my call schedule when I leave for the airport. But JFK arrive no later than 60 min before depart
Depending on my client, I may leave 3-4 hours early on Thursday so that I have plenty of time to drink and forget about my week
D1 that is not cutting it close lol. I arrive at LGA at boarding time
Variables: pre or not; mobile boarding pass vs have to check in; bags to check?; and there’s also which airport (JFK doesn’t have a train or terminals that take you a long time to reach like Dulles or Chicago for example). Assuming you’ve got a boarding pass already, don’t need to check bags, and are precheck, for a domestic flight 30 mins before the flight boards should be fine. If you got to wait in line to check in (like you’re flying a non-US carrier), or have bags to check, Arent pre-check and/or it doesn’t show on your boarding pass (which happens to me sometimes when I fly non US carriers), then allow 90 minutes. If it’s a big vacation trip then earlier because why take chances
Usually arrive at MCI at 510am on Monday mornings for my flight that boards at 520 and departs at 6, rarely ever miss my boarding group.
Domestic - 1 hour, international- 2 hours.
