It’s hard. You need to have money to put into it. You have to be able to hustle to get cases and then you need to fund the cases from your own money until things start to pay. And with limited support staff you’re stuck doing every little thing. It’s doable but it’s high stress high risk. Also depends how much experience you already have, how much money you have saved, and how long you can go without income, like are you single or have kids, lots of loans etc.

Agreed, a friend of mine left a high volume PI firm to do it solo. It's a real struggle. There are only so many cases and the bigger firms have the advertising budget to haul in the clients. In the past few years many attorneys I know have stopped taking PI cases because the cost outweighs the reward.
