I enjoy working there. They don’t pay market but are well positioned in their “tier.” The PPP and PPEP have been on a significant, consistent rise. The benefits are pretty good (17 weeks of paid maternity and paternity leave).
Don’t know what office AA1 is talking about, but I don’t know of any traditional ID in my office (I think L&E deals with some insurance and rate pressure). I have one case with an insurance company right now, not one id heard of before this case, but one that pays my standard rate and doesn’t have any billing guidelines.

The firm is doing well financially. They have recently become really strict about hours. If you do not hit 1850, you are going on a PIP (productivity (not performance) improvement plan)
You experience will greatly vary depending on who you work for. I work for one Partner who thinks Baker is Kirkland Ellis or something and he is very demanding and very old school. I have others who are super chill and understand that we are supposed to to be a “culture” firm. There is a wide gap in pay depending on the office. Nashville associates make way more than Memphis despite the cost of living not being that different. We just had an awesome firm retreat. The firm rented out a section of universal studios and it was really cool to see a bunch of boomers ride the hulk. If you are in a smaller office, like Memphis, Baker is considered to be the best firm in town and they get all of the high profile matters. In other cities with much more big law competition, this is not the case.
Yes!

Is it considered Big Law? Met a few attorneys who previously worked there and was not impressed by them.
Mentor
Their egos outweighed their actual legal knowledge.
Same experience I had- a lot of the lawyers went to terrible law schools. However, I am not sure if this applies to all offices.
They hire a lot of Memphis grads. Outside of law school ranking, Memphis law has produced some Sixth Circuit judges and TN Supreme Court Justices. These law students also place pretty well in clerkships 🤷🏼♀️
Their real estate section is struggling and laid off several associates and of counsel.
Oof I’m so sorry! I’m sure you’ll land on your feet - what office?
This is the big law bowl. Not the bowl for firms that pay substantially below market with mid attorneys.
Who?
I currently work there and am in the process of lateraling out. Feel free to DM me.
I know one of their offices in a major city is very ID heavy. I think they acquired an ID firm like 10-15 years ago to open an office in that market, but the work at that office still does not seem “complex.” Not sure about their other offices- any insight from litigation associates who work there? How much of your work is ID?
Do they just do ID in that office?
They seem to be in a constant state of urgent hiring in the city near me. Read into that what you will.
Interesting. What is your general impression of them?
I like working with them as local counsel for what it's worth
They have acted as local counsel for our client for opinion delivery purposes in a finance transaction
Poor
Not big law
