How many here find they do not have authority over their team they should have? Or am I nieve?

I am responsible for my team performs. When it comes to HR Milestones I have very little control. e.g. Bonus and pay rises: I am allocated a pot of money to distribute as I see fit. When I do this fairly and submit my allocations, my manager then tells me she has to see what I am submitting as she needs a pot as well. i.e. I have to give some of my money to bolster her pot. Same with goals.

I'm a journalist with 5 years of experience in public relations. I got offered a job as a production assistant where I'll have to so tasks related to my experience in PR, but they want to pay me as a junior journalist. Should I accept this?

Ctc offered - 16.7

Fixed - 14.5

Please advise whether the package offered is okay or not. Should I look for another offer?

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been asked to provide examples how my role has changed since I started to justify the increase. Is this normal? Or is this just their way of denying my request?

For lots of different reasons I get the impression that younger people aren’t equipped for the employer, employee relationship.

One of my top talents just put in his two weeks notice and I had nothing to offer him to stay. I told upper management this was going to happen! I’ve spent months asking for a promotion for him, trying to push his career forward and got no traction. I know i did my best. He knows i tried. I still believe i work at a good place but i feel like we’re losing focus. I feel my boss is leaving soon. It’s a mess.

I have issues “delegating” or simply assigning tasks, which as a Manager is a whole thing. Like I feel “bad” asking my people to do things that i know i can do but shouldn’t because it’s not up to me. When I assign a task i try to be super clear with instructions, give examples, help them get started…but I still feel bad. Idk. Anyone goes through this?
