I don’t think I would ever go back for a pay cut
I wanted to get industry experience and found that industry isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
RSM1, for me coaching/mentorship are really important and something I valued in PA. In industry, I did not have anyone above me who I looked to as a mentor. I felt that the people I worked alongside in industry were just settling with their jobs or were not really qualified altogether to do what they were doing. Also, I felt like my input/professional opinion on issues didn’t matter so I felt like my skill set was not being best utilized.
Uhhh sounds like we’re on the same page then. Not sure where the disconnect is but what you said about office politics is part of what I meant when I said not that big a difference between industry and B4 lol.
Can I ask why you are thinking of coming back? I’ve been thinking about leaving.
I know PwC is at a shortage practically at any level. They encourage targeting alumni, in fact the referral bonus is larger for an alumni. I would say negotiating power is strong as ever now.
I got something like 8% more than my departure salary when I came back
So you took a lower salary when you came back? I guess it makes sense, you’d loose a lot of negotiating power..
I guess I was unclear. Left the firm for a 22% increase. Boomeranged back for an 8% increase from my PwC departure salary
The offer I received isn’t a pay cut, but I’m trying to gauge my negotiating boundaries.
Why don't you like insustry?
Negotiating power depends on the market and of course how much they want you.
I’m thinking about doing the same thing except maybe going to a mid-sized firm for the perks of PA without the crazy B4 hours. The grass isn’t always greener.. have you thought about other firms or only want to go back to where you were?
You should think about why you left the firm in the first place. You must have been unsatisfied for a reason in order to leave. Either they have to change or you adjust your mindset because most likely the same problem that caused you to leave will come back.
@OP I think you should just evaluate what’s important to you. There’s no such thing as the perfect job not even if you’re the boss. Just keep looking until the right opportunity comes your way and be ready to seize it before the competition.
You think you could get more if you go to a different firm?
