I have received offer from Shell and SAP labs is in final stage salary discussion. Shell is offering 6 lacs more than @SAP labs. I have tried to negotiate a lot from SAP but they are not ready. They are putting conditions like give your full commitment to join then only we'll release offer letter. I am currently looking for work life balance with growth. Should I join @SAP considering its a Product based and good WLB and learning? Teck Stack - Java/Micro-services/cloud YOE - 11yrs
Hi all, I just got a job offer at PwC for a senior consultant position. The salary is 30% above my total comp right now, but I’m just worried about the amount of work I will have to put in compared to my amazing work life balance now. Does anyone have any experience moving from industry to consulting? I need some advice on what to do. I’m still early in my career (1.4yoe) so I feel like I shouldn’t care too much about wlb, but at the same time, I don’t want my mental health to suffer either.

Where are my monies!?

Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.

My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.

I work under 45 consistently
Proclaimed Avg at mck is 60 hours a week (approx 12 hours a day). My group is currently doing 70ish/week and leadership is trying to get us down to 60 as the IDEAL TARGET. which to me, is bonkers. I just hit 30 y.o. and think that this is not for me long term. Too much you’re giving up in life outside of work.
This is a tangent but is it worth it working those hours? I’m getting into my 30s and look back and my best memories are those I’ve shared with friends on trips and events, not the Friday night hunched over my computer while everyone else went home to make some minor updates to a system or deck that really don’t matter in the grand scheme of things.
I’m not at the crazy number of hours posted by OP but they keep going up, and I feel like work is taking over my life. Everything I do, work is at the back of my mind. At some point I think I’d rather have a pay cut than lose my mind.
Yeah definitely not worth it, I completely agree. Been thinking a lot about where I am in life and if this is what I want. That’s why I’d like to gauge what’s it like in the industry to help me think about the next steps in my career.
To see if reasonable WLB is something I can actually fight for, of it’s just the way it is in consulting.
Sounds like you're on the extreme end. What type of consulting?
OP - your response answered your question. It’s all dependent on your project, team, luck – not firm. I do not work those hours neither do most the analyst in my close network.
It depends. I was at big 4 previously. Have worked 70-80 hours in both places. I’d say I worked more hours at Big4 slightly more consistently. Whereas here, some projects are 50 hours versus others at 75.
Looking at a third 80h week; weekend protected
60 for me on my current project.

Having worked in both MBB and Big4, the hours vary far more across projects and teams within the firms than they do across the firms.
