I’ve been practicing for 6 years and just started at my third firm. It made sense because I was always swimming upstream to a “better firm” or retooling practice areas or for a promotion in title
I think that it’s more “acceptable” for early career people to make frequent changes than for more senior people to do it. Hop every two years during your first 5-6 years? Not a problem. Still hopping 15-20 years in? Red flag, IMO.
From a recruiting perspective, have a good reason for having less than a 4 year average job tenure.
Statistically few folks starts and finishes at one shop.
Depends on where you start out. At the high end of the bell curve probably features fewer moves, as these folks have the luxury of being more selective/strategic as to when (or if) they move. At the low end of the bell curve (full of low-paying, dead-end jobs) probably a lot more often: these folks have to move to obtain better pay and prospects, and aren’t insulated from the need to move due to life changes to the degree that their counterparts at the other end of the spectrum are.
