Can’t say from direct experience, but I interviewed with a couple of different gaming/hospitality companies for financial reporting roles.
While they both paid well and were very reputable companies, the work environment, the long hours that I was told I would be working, and moreover the stress that would’ve come along with those was enough for me to withdraw from the interview process.
When I leave PA, I want much more time for my family than those financial reporting positions may have provided.
In short, to answer your question, my guess is that financial reporting positions would be similar in nature to public accounting (researching accounting guidance, writing memos, etc.) but you’re focused on one company and have 4 stretches of “busy seasons” which may last 4-6 weeks at a time.
I work as an SEC accountant at a mid cap size company. It probably varies by company but I put in 50 hours a week for 3 weeks after each quarter end and 40 hours the rest of the year. It's a lot of rolling forward the financial statements, analyzing new guidance and the affect they have on the financials, and creating the EPS, CF and other financial statements related schedules.
