I expect more pay to have to go in more than 2d a week and if at all downtown.
According to ChatGPT, I was being underpaid $20k - $40k+. I didn’t look for a new job because I was fully remote and knew it would be tough to find a remote job that paid more. The company switched to 5 days in office (same salary) and now I feel the full weight of being underpaid. It feels like they took away a benefit like health insurance or PTO from the overall compensation package.
well, at least you had the benefit this far! You're still going to be searching for a job now, maybe more motivated than before!
There are times when I wish I was still working remotely. If given the option, I would consider taking a pay cut to work remotely. As to whether companies should pay more to have us in the office, that's an attractive idea, but of course it has no traction in the corporate world. The choice now is show up or find another job.

Most candidates treat remote work as part of total compensation now, not a perk. Some will trade salary for flexibility; others won’t, especially if collaboration or visibility affects growth. Paying more strictly for office presence can work, but only if expectations and value exchange are explicit.
Working remotely is a time and money saver. With only a 30-minute commute, that's 5 extra hours a week you have. There are perks to being in the office, but it’s hard to compare with the extra time you have.
I would take a pay cut for sure if I could work remotely.
