What is that?
The behavioral interview with HR before case interviews
Chief
I always felt like this was the moment that would tell me if I enjoy them so I’d prep by knowing what I want answered. It’s not always them interviewing, take that with a grain of salt.
I prepared it on the go, as I started my interview journey with those firms that were bottom of my priority list
The mck stories are vastly different to a regular Personal fit Interview though, so I prepared them for around a week in total
Fit interview maybe 5 hours. These are the questions I’ve noticed the most at this stage
- Tell me about yourself
- Tell me about your skills
- Why (company)
- What is your expected comp
- Logistics (i.e. when you could start)
I freestyled
As McK 1 said, I prepared on the go, as I practiced. For every company that I received an interview invitation, I created a story for it.
My story is almost always made of 3 parts:
- My background (how I got to want consulting)
- Why consulting
- Why company XYZ
I can vary all 3 components on length and topic. For an example: I recently received an offer for an unicorn to CoS that I basically freestyled why "unicorn" based on my "Why consulting" answers but without saying the word consulting lol
~5 seconds. Usually the 5 seconds after they asked the question.
I spent many months compiling questions and answers to behavioral interviews until I finally got the EY interview. I faced many rejections but from each rejection, I took something and made my resume and behavioral answers better. I have a whole document in case you need something to look at.
Hi, do you still have that document , please may you share it with me , that would be so helpful !
~6 hours. But I tend to overwork when I’m nervous, you probably don’t need that long
