About 4 weeks. Our daughter had over 25 flights before she was 2. Take advantage of the free lap infant while you can!
Flew maybe 8 times by the time she was 9 months and it was easy every time. Do it. Once they can walk it gets so much harder.
5 months. The key is to feed them when the plane ascends/descends in order to minimize effects of pressure on the ear. Both my kids have been travelling since they were babies, and never once did we have a screaming fit on a flight.
10 weeks for my oldest. 4 months for my other 2. Oldest is 4.5, has done 90 flights. Middle is 2.5, has done 60. Youngest is catching up.
Flying with a single 7 month old is a breeze, even solo. Of course, that’s with the benefit of a lot of practice.
What is SO’s main concern?
2 months here. Easy peasy. Pack in as much airline travel as you can before you hit the 2 year old needs a ticket mark!
It is a lot of stuff to carry, but might as well get used to it
Thanks for all the advice. I think I’ve convinced my SO
Minimize the gear you take. We use note cribs and have bought ~5 $40 pack n plays for all family we travel to see. We can often get fam to borrow car seats at our destination. If not, we travel with a very lightweight one for that purpose (Cosco Scenera). Grandma and grandpa also have high chairs and strollers stashed at their place. All of that was maybe $400. Well worth to not lug the whole circus along
14 weeks was first flight. Buy the extra seat and use the car seat on the plane
Took my 8 week old to Paris. Slept like a baby
6 months. Took Barcelona from DC. Great trip, but on longer flights with infants always get the bulk head seat and ask for the bassinet !
4.5 months. She slept the whole flight.
M1 - once they walk, you strap them into car seat, attach roller wheels, and roll them through terminal. When they’re 3-4, they get terminal waking privileges
11 months but he gets earpain during take off and landing other than that it was a breeze. My kids have traveled more around the world by age 5 than I did until age 25.
Another vote for “do it.” I did central US to Western Europe with an under 1 and it was easy peasy. Just bring whatever they eat, be it breastfeeding or bottle or whatever, to help them stay comfortable and quiet for the times they are not sleeping.
3 months
BCG1. SO doesn’t want to check all of the baby’s belongings and such. Thinks it’s a hassle to have to pick them up. Would much rather drive. I’ve been trying to tell her that the 45 minute flight is much less stress
3 months
2 months. Used a bottle of takeoff and landing to help with ear pain.
We took our 2 month to the UK, nyc to dc should be very manageable. We just did a three hour flight to Texas and my SO and I just think worst case the whole flight and you just figure it out.
Trains are also good fo kids too did that in the UK and was very easy
