How targeted is your marketing company? Can they directly target people if they visit X website? My marketing company seems kind of lazy in this regard, more of a set it and forget it mentality. Want to see if there are more proactive agencies or whether my expectations are too high.

I couldn’t get an internship while in school. I have a BS in ME and projects from school under my belt. I’ve also passed the FE exam. I’ve been mostly just doing CAD for a company for the last year by creating minimally dimensioned drawings and moving parts around in assemblies. I want to evolve in my career and be doing more. I worked so hard to earn my degree and I feel like I’m not even using it. But who will hire me?

After graduating with my MBA with a focus in project management, I moved organizations to go from an EMR education manager to a full time project manager specializing in EMR implementation projects. I’ve found that although I enjoy the work- changing organizations and roles in a remote world was harder than I anticipated. I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. 3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I know where everything is on Westlaw and now I need to relearn. Apparently Westlaw will not budge on price and would rather just see a client leave than work with them. Super annoying. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?

We have a transactional side (formations, contract drafting/reviewing, trademarks etc) and a litigation side of our firm. I feel like the business side is drastically slowing down. Is anyone else experiencing this slowdown? Any tips on how to get it back flowing?

Does anyone share the feeling of wanting more lawyer friends in their circle? Sometimes it’s nice to talk about anything besides the law and work; yet, other times, I crave talking to people who share similar experiences and can bounce case ideas and strategy, vent about opposing counsel and Judges, etc...you know, people who just “get it”.

Anyone here got an idea of how much they made this year? I made around $65,000. With loans around 220k, I feel like I’m ok where I’m at after 2 years out of law school. Anyone got similar stories? Reading posts about pay makes me feel impoverished.

How do you handle billing disputes? Already feel like we’re a steal compared to other firms, but it’s the pits when clients kvetch about the bill after working hard on their matters. For five figure disputes, anyone recommend collections? Don’t really want to institute retainers, especially since it doesn’t seem common for our practice area.

Does anyone run a business in addition to their firm? I’m a solo and I’m doing pretty well with about 60-70 billable hours a month. Though that leaves a lot of downtime. Curious if anyone has any second businesses that require about 20 hours a week. Not looking for passive income or franchise ideas though.

Does anybody have a resource available for pricing and billing? I am 2 years out of law school, working as a corporate attorney, and wanting to go solo. Ideally, I will take my corporate client with me, but am working to build work on the side during the transition. Also, do you have any recommendations for document preparation? I would like to draft wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents, but would like a resource that has boilerplate provisions to utilize as a reference.
