The job market is rough everywhere right now. I have several friends in Chicago that have been looking for more than 8 months. I would network and see if you can get someone to give you a referral.
I can’t speak for Chicago specifically, but I’ve worked at and with a few mid start ups. Overall, there’s a lot of output that is expected of teams and I’ve found there’s quite a bit of growing pains from startup to late-stage. Leadership often wants to be heavily involved in decision making
That said, the culture is usually fun! You get more perks and stability than a start up, but it’s not as painfully corporate. I’ve been overall happy, but find it’s not something long term for me
To this point, I think that people who come from big corporate machine companies sometimes have trouble adjusting to the speed and expectations. You often don’t have an army of people to help you and have to take on more. It’s exciting if you’re up for the challenge and can land something
