Child of immigrants here - my parents worked very hard to provide for my education and for that I am very grateful. But they also put a lot of pressure on me growing up to study and eventually to grow up to provide for my family. In part as a result I developed severe anxiety and depression in law school. How do you respond when straight white men and women attorneys make comments about how you do too much "non-billable" DEI work?

For Nov 2022 I am on track to bill 170 hours after today, with an additional 100 non-billable, which includes a bunch of various DEI commitments. A partner that I work with has repeatedly called me by the wrong name. He has done it twice on a call with a client. I always correct him when it happens but it bothers me that he cannot get my name right.

I live in a mid-size market. The community is not super diverse, but has been attracting more young people of color in recent years. Still, I’m one of two attorneys of color in my 120-attorney office. I’m really unhappy with the overall culture at my firm and I experience a lot of blatant sexism and covert racism. (Continued)
