Agreed. It’s business and any self respecting lead on their end would be understanding as long as you give them reassurance that this go around is different.
I wouldn’t do it twice, though.
Employers rescind offers too..I mean, they layoff employees all the time. Sadly no contract is binding and everyone should be able to make the best decision for themselves. Cost of living is astronomical so I would hope everyone is understanding that if a better offer comes along you might take it. I recently verbally accepted an offer but passed once the written doc was given to me. Recruiter didn't seem happy but they didn't offer more money, so...
Be up front so they can decide to pursue you or not. Otherwise, you may waist a lot of time going through the process for no reason.
