I always thought hitting $100k would mean a more comfortable lifestyle (I came from $40k). However, that deep-seated feeling of being 'super comfortable' that I always associated with reaching $100,000 hasn't quite materialized, other than having more to invest for retirement. Is this a common feeling these days?

Yes, that's normal. $200k is the new $100k

At 40k you probably didn’t have the most reliable car, housing, or lifestyle. As your income increased, so did your expenses. You probably bought the better car, nicer housing, and added some lifestyle changes (for the better of course)

If we all could live like back when we made 40k, we would feel very wealthy.

The weird thing is, I made 40K back in 2017 and it was not WFH. I was living pretty good and even cleared my credit cards out. Now if someone offered me 40K I’d laugh. The dollar has devalued so much that 40K is chicken scratchings.

Yes because you now pay more in taxes and everything else.

Very common feeling these days. $100k just doesn’t stretch the way it used to, especially in cities. It’s a huge milestone, but not the lifestyle change we might’ve imagined growing up.

Assuming not too much debt, the new number is 125K+

100k isn’t what it used to be.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Hello, I am a junior business administrator working in advisory operations. I have been with the company for 6 months, and was employed along with 2 other colleagues. I have picked the job up really fast and am even doing some “extra curricula’s” I really love my job. However I have recently found out I am being paid the same as an apprentice on my team, I usually do at 3 x the work he does whilst also doing my Cert CII. It has really disheartened me and I feel I should be earning more money

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. I have been talking to a recruiter for a little over a month about a position. I let her know out the gate that I really wasn’t looking to change jobs, but she just kept wanting to continuing the conversation. I didn’t have 2 interviews with the hiring coming and they know that I am not really looking to make a switch. They are now working on an offer letter and I know they’re going to offer me more money. I’m having my annual review this week. Any advice on how to handle a) job offer b) review?

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

In my organization, most with my role are commission based. I make a set salary due to the firm I work for as an account manager/ coordinator for clients… I coordinate their enrollments, working with each groups HR department as to benefits and payroll purposes, and schedule our benefit counselors accordingly. I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?
