I am a 2nd year associate that lateraled from a small boutique firm to a regional midsize firm. I have been here for 6 months and I am struggling to get work. I am barely scrapping up 100 hours billable per month. I keep networking try to get work out of the two specialists groups that I sit in and the adjacent groups but it’s not working. I’m looking for advice on what to do in this situation. Additionally, my practice group leader just keeps telling me to network to get work.

Can anyone share some OKR’s and targets for training? I’m somewhat struggling to find measurable targets for training.

I guess I’m officially being off boarded team doesn’t care no one has said anything … I’m a ball of nerves thankfully my old company wants me back — feeling so sad and angry and just incredibly nervous

I have a partner who routinely ignores emails or responds to them several weeks later. He has to approve every single document sent to the client or the court, which means you have a physically go to his office to ask him to review something. Half of the time you go to meet with him in person, he’s either on a call or otherwise busy. I find that this basically creates more work and makes meeting deadlines extremely difficult. Is this normal?

How hard is the path from lit to GC?

I am currently practicing insurance litigation but am looking to transition into corporate law (M&A, private equity). I have heard horror stories about this practice area though. I am looking for input from those who practice in this area. Do you like it? Is it interesting? What are the hours like? It seems a lot of people in this area are looking to get out...am I making a mistake by looking to get in?

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

Whenever I've seen if a client wanted to renew a contract or If a firm wanted to renew my contract I've always posed it I'm considering options X, Y, Z but I really enjoyed working with you and need to know if you're interested in keeping me on. I’ve practiced litigation in DC for about 5+ years at a larger plaintiffs’ firm, and am considering a switch to a defense firm. Is there any insight to how many billable hours this would require, and how much time that would actually be? For reference, the firm has a 1900 billable hour requirement and the partner said I would have “no problem” fulfilling that based on the work they have.

How are 1st year litigation associates dealing with WFH? I’ve been having terrible anxiety/panic attacks, and pretty sure my billables wont exceed 110 for April. I’ve been super stressed about it and don’t know how to move on to May with the proper mindset to make up for as much time missed as possible.
