It’s never too early to apply and move if it’s the correct opportunity. However, that’s hard to come by as a second year. May be just apply and see if you get an offer and how you feel about it after the interview process. Don’t make a decision until you have to.
In terms of preserving your options of coming back, it ll be easy in the current market but a lot harder once it slows down. Just depends on your timing and practice area.
Big law, big law, big law. Be worried about your ability to do the job after only 18 months of attorney experience.
To be honest, big law "training" isn't as good as big law attorneys self promote. If you don't feel confident running client meetings without partner support, and feeling confident (and being accurate) in your responses, you don't have enough experience for in house.
This is actually on point. Although I doubt someone is hiring a second year in-house to do any sort of substantive work. It’s likely to be more administrative in nature. Which is why I said the right kind of opportunities are hard th come by as a second year. But totally agree with this.
This is all so helpful, I really appreciate your input! I definitely agree, I would be lying if I said I had any sort of confidence running client meetings for anything other than certificates, resolutions, and a few slightly more substantive items
