Don't give them a figure say that range would work. If they push fir a specific number say you'd like to first learn more about the responsibilities and the actual work you'll be doing.
This above is solid advice. I feel like if they’ve already given you a range though, they won’t ask that because it’s not relevant to the negotiation anymore
Check it out, $115k to $165k is the range they gave for the job right? that means someone with the minimum quals is at 115, while someone with the max quals is at 165. Put your skillset & experience on a spectrum and go from there. If you're mid-way, then tell them 125-135.
Good Luck!
I tell recruiters “I want to make this work. You’ve does a market analysis on this role and know what the market pays this role and someone with my experience. Im not comfortable constructing my own offer. So I would really appreciate it you could put together the offer and then I can carefully review it and provide feedback”.
What frosts me with recruiters is it’s their job to know what the market will bear, what different people with different skills and experiences can get …. Yet they pull this lame “I need you to tell me”. No. No you don’t. You want me to do your job because you have more information than I do and you are using that against me to lowball me.
Only you can answer how badly you need this job. Doubling your salary to $115k sounds pretty damn good as a start especially in this economy. Be careful though, once earlier in my career they posted a range and then the recruiter offered $5k below the posted range. I really needed the job so I took it. So don’t assume the posted salary can’t be changed later in the process both up and down.
Go on Glassdoor and other sites to see what similar roles at the company and others in the market actually pay. Use that to inform your salary goal. The caveat is you can’t see the experience of those other people so I would use it to directionally figure out what I wanted.
This is wonderful advice. Apparently, I have a unique set of skills. I just recently worked in a position in healthcare with a Medicaid program. However, past experiences include non-profit work, supporting and recruiting and working in higher education in financial aid and advising. I have a MS in College Student Personnel. This is the first time I would be in a position like this, where my experiences are used for a single, newly created position. It's exciting and nerve racking at the same time.
Where are you located? I'm some states it's illegal to ask for your salary - they can only ask for your expectations. Check the time and responsibilities and how closely you're background aligns to that. Alastair say that you're interviewing with companies who's salary ranges are in their ballpark and you'll consider the whole package - healthcare, stock etc.
Omg my typos. I should not be on here without my reading glasses.
Ask them the range for the position. thats what a recruiter told me to do.
